Gifts that bring light to the heart and the home!

Hey guys!

Sorry I've been gone for so long!! This is my senior year of high school and I have been really busy with college applications and school work. I know that this Christmas there isn't a lot of money to go around with the economy being in such bad shape. However, gifts at Christmas aren't about how much they cost, they are just about letting family and friends know that you are thinking about them.

I was reading the newest issue of "Real Simple" magazine and they had some really good ideas about crafty gifts that you can make other people for Christmas. Since I know this is one of the more expensive magazines I wanted to tell you all about one of the ideas which I thought was the cutest.

SUGAR-BOWL CANDLES!

The project takes 25 minutes and will make two candles.
What you will need:

-2 sugar bowls, and you can get some really nice vintage ones from the 2nd hand store.
-one one pound bag of soy wax
-a microwave-safe container with pouring spout
-dye
-candle-fragrance oil
-scissors
-wicking
-wick tabs
-wood skewers or chopsticks

What to do:

-"Follow the instructions on the soy-wax package for heating the wax and adding your dye and fragrance."
-"Cut the wicking so that it is about three inches taller than the bowl."
-"Thread the wicking through a wick tab and knot it at one end and slide the wick tab down to the knot. Dip the wick tab into the melted wax to coat, then press down firmly in the center of the bowl to make it adhere."
-"Tie the loose end of the wicking to a skewer so that it won't get caught in the wax, then rest the skewer across the lip of the bowl. Repeat the wick-tab process for the second bowl."
-"Slowly pour the wax into the bowls and allow it to harden."
-"Cut the wicks right below the skewers; they should stick up about a quarter inch from the wax."
(from "Real Simple" magazine)

I think that this is the cutest project ever and your family and friends will see how thoughtful it was and how it took you time out of your day, rather than just buying them a present from the store. ALSO, you can decorate little match boxes and give them a box of matches with the candle!

D.I.Y. projects for my room

Hello all!

I am trying to re-do my room and new decorations are soooo expensive. I want to re-do my room with stuff that I can make. I want to be able to use stuff around my house and some cheap things to re-do my room and make it really comfortable. I have already started to decorate my door with collages and magazine clippings.

I want to do some wall decorations and decorate some storage stuff so let me know if you know anything I can do.

Winter Scarves

Hello All!!

I decided that, before winter gets here, I am going to knit a couple of scarves that will go with all of my outfits.

I don't know about you all, but personally, the best feeling is putting on a warm scarf before you go out into the cold weather. PLUS I sing so I always have to keep my throat wrapped up (I haven't been so good about this in the past, and no one wants to hear a girl singing with a hoarse voice.) The first scarf that I am making is gray and I am using a beautiful boucle yarn from Bernat. I do not believe that the price of the yarn determines the quality of the product in all cases. When I am on a budget or want to make something fast and fun I LOVE going to WalMart and looking through their huge yarn selection.

I am about three quarters of the way done with the scarf and it is very pretty. When I am done I will let you all see. I am making these scarves on the longer side because I love the look of a long scarf.

Comment if you have any questions!
